Stocks Farmhouse is a Grade II listed building in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Although only constructed in the 1930s its special architectural and historic interest lies in the quality of its design and composition, including the symmetry of the front and rear elevation of the main range of the house. Our work focused on the single storey wing to one side, which was extended and altered to allow the kitchen to be relocated and the provision of a Utility Room and ground floor bedroom and shower room. However, the element of greatest delight is a dining area that opens out onto the garden via sliding / folding doors constructed in oak, with additional light flooding the space via a clerestory and a pyramid rooflight set within the low pitched roof element of the extension, finished in lead. The brickwork of the original external corner of the house is exposed within the extension providing a delightful contrast of materials and between old and new. The lead roof is enveloped by a pitched roof extension that matches seamlessly with the original structure.
